About

My name is Aisling D’Art. I’m an artist, and this is my website about alternatives to Branford Magazine themes.

If you’re looking for a premium ($) version of Branford Magazine, go to Der-Prinz.com.  That’s the website of Michael Oeser, who compiled the original Branford Magazine theme; today, he sells a “Pro” version of the theme.

For years, I used Branford Magazine happily.  In fact, I wrote two books about it, to help others — especially non-technical people — customize their own Branford Magazine websites.

(Users of other magazine-style themes used my books as references, too.  Many of my tips helped people use Mimbo, some StudioPress themes, and several related themes.  So, if you switch to one of them, you can still find helpful information in my book.)

Then, WordPress 3.0 changed how Branford Magazine worked.

I immediately stopped selling my books, and started looking for answers to Branford’s problems.

So far, the answers look too complex — and they’re likely to be fleeting solutions, until the next WordPress update — and I’m not optimistic.

Note: WordPress 3.0 doesn’t appear to be a security patch.  If you don’t upgrade, but keep using WordPress 2.9.2 instead, your Branford Magazine website should keep working without problems.

If you continue using Branford Magazine, you’ll find the old version of this website at Branford Magazine Archives. Those articles and videos may be helpful.

In the articles at this website, I tell you how to keep using Branford Magazine, if you really want to.

I also explain why I can’t recommend the “Pro” version of Branford Magazine, and what you can use instead.

If you’re reading this, you probably weren’t satisfied with Branford Magazine Pro, but you’d like a site that looks like the best of it.  Most of my readers seem to feel that way.

The good news is: There are alternatives.  One is Mimbo, and the other is StudioPress.

Mimbo, official site. Before there was Branford Magazine, there was Mimbo.   In fact, about 90% of the original Branford Magazine was based on Mimbo.

Go see Darren’s newest updates, now! Available in a Free and a Pro version, plus other great themes, as well.  (And yes, you can create a graphic header and change the colors of your Mimbo site.  I simply haven’t had time to do that, here.)

Studio Press, official site. (Formerly “Revolution” theme. It also inspired the Branford theme, and shares many features, and it offers step-by-step support.)

If you’d like different answers to the Branford Magazine problem, visit the website of Michael Oeser, Der-Prinz. com.  Ultimately, as the creator of most of the Branford Magazine themes, he’s the one responsible for supporting his themes.

Any patch that he issues for Branford Magazine 2.0 will also work for my Aisling edition, based on it.
