Video – Branford Magazine Homepage Categories
May 4th, 2010 | By Aisling | Category: How-to tips
Homepage categories can seem confusing at first. Every magazine theme uses them, but many theme creators assume that you know (a) how to find your Category ID numbers, and (b) how to use them to customize your homepage.
Whether you’re using the Branford Magazine WordPress theme or a different magazine-style theme, this video may help you.

Though this shows you the basics, you may want to know more. You’ll find more — lots more — with plenty of step-by-step instructions in The Branford Magazine User’s Manual.
Like this video about homepage categories, my book is written for non-techies. It shows you exactly how to create your own Branford Magazine theme website in hours, not days.
In the book, I also share several other tips about homepage categories… things that I couldn’t cover in a five-minute video.
Great video!
… that is, till the point I had to hover my cursor over a category and something was supposed to show up on the bottom fo my screen. I’m afraid that with the newest wordpress that’s not working that way… I hope the book will be more useful…
I’d appreciate any follow-up help
Thank you!
Hi E.G.,
If the number’s not showing up at the bar near the bottom of your screen, it’s not because of WordPress.
I’m using the newest version of WordPress, and those screenshots (in the video) were taken with it.
I’m using Branford Magazine 2.0 (Aisling edition) and Firefox, as well as the newest WordPress. I double-checked the Categories screen in IE, and the numbers are showing up there, as well.
So, the problem isn’t WordPress, Firefox or IE. Also, because this has been a “this always works” fix, the book is going to tell you the same thing I demonstrated in the video.
Which version of Branford Magazine are you using? Are you using an alternate browser like Opera?
The number should be showing up exactly as in the video. Let’s find out why it isn’t, so you can use this theme.
I always want to know if there’s an important issue I haven’t addressed in my books.
Thanks!
Concerned,
Aisling
